SSAS 2005-2008 R2-2012 -Deployment ERROR

  • Hi to all of you.

I work with SSAS 2008R2 and before with SSAS 2005.

Next days i will work with SSAS 2012 Multidimensional...

A problem i encountered a lot of time is to recevine an error when i do some changes to my SSAS Project and i deploy it.

Error is similar to that...and when it compares caused a lot of worry to me...

I think to others people happened or will happen that.

So i want to share my experience to do your SSAS deployment successfully...

Error 5 Internal error: Invalid enumeration value. Please call customer support! is not a valid value for this element.

Error 6 An error occurred while parsing the 'StorageMode' element at line 1, column 11865 ('http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine' namespace) under Load/ObjectDefinition/Dimension/StorageMode.

Error 7 Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when instantiating a metadata object from the file, '\\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Data\AMS Analysis Services 2008.0.db\Dim Date.19.dim.xml'.

    STEPS :

    1) Before to do any changes to your SSAS Project, you have to do a BACKUP of your Multidimensional ataBase

I scheduled every day whan i am sure my SSAS projects end...

    (Look at this useful link..

    http://www.sqlserver-training.com/schedule-analysis-services-database-back-up/-)

    2) Imagine your SSAS Project is named PLUTO.

Search in YOUR Project disk , the folder named PLUTO and rename it in PLUTO_<DATE_OF_CHANGE>

    3) Open Visual Studio and create a new Analysis Services Project using the wizard ImportAnalysis Services DataBase .

Pay attention to give at that new project the same name PLUTO.(Your Production Project).

    4) When you did successfully step 3...change Deployment Properties of project just created.

You have to right click over the name of the project opened with IDE and select Deployment Properties

In Deployment Properties Tab you to do these changes:

PROCESSING OPTION : DO NOT PROCESS

DEPLOYMENT MODE : DEPLOY CHANGES ONLY

Save the project with these settings.

    5) Do everything you need to do in your SSAS Project (Create Cubes, change DSV, update or create dimensions...change of roles and so on).

    6) Save all changes.

    7) Deploy all Project.

When all is done , message "Deployment succefully" will appear.

When i did without these steps, 80% of times i received that hugly error "DEPLOYMENT ERROR".

When you receive "DEPLOYMENT ERROR" is a big problem, because it means your project is not valid yet (Corrupt) , and if you have not a backup of DB to do restore of DB , it si a big problem.

I hope this help someone !!!

PS. If there is a different way you learned working day by day, post it !!!!

    Regards ..Have a wonderful 2013 !!!
