While configuring report server 2005 (with IIS 6); under web service identity, I tried to create a ‘new’ application pool called reportserver. The underlying SQL Server instance was a named instance. So, I tried to create it including instance name under network service account.
The dropdown now displayed ReportServer$Instancename, but I was not able to apply it. It threw an error. I tried to apply this for both Report server and report manager. After some trying it somehow got applied for Report Server, but not for report manager, where if I select it, the apply button is greyed out.
For the option specify the application pool in which to run Reporting Server Web Service, for Report Server and Report Manager, I didn’t know what was the significance of creating, selecting ReportServer$Instance vs having it left as DefaultAppPool. What difference does it make?
