SQL SERVER 2005 AND SQL SERVER 2000 ON THE SAME MACHINE

  • Hello Everybody,

I have in a production environment one Server with Windows 2003 SP2 and 4 Gb. RAM, and also i have two SQL Servers Instances, the first with SQL Server 2000 and the other one with SQL Server 2005 SP2, my problem basically is the fight for memory of both Instances, i need restart the server every 10 days approx, to solve my problem with memory.

My question is how can i configure the memory in this server for an efficient management of memory for SQL Server, on each instance, and how much memory do i need for the Windows 2003?

Is it possible to divide the memory like this:

    1 Gb RAM for S.O Windows 2003

1.25 Gb RAM for SQL Server 2000

1.25 Gb RAM for SQL Server 2005

    Regards,

  • If you are in Win2003 Enterprise edition you may need more memory because your current configuration may be just enough for both, if you are in Win2003 Standard then it maybe time to talk to the people with he checkbook.

Performance tuning is always a good place to start so you have data for the people with the check book.
