Hi -
I recently was given the task of taking a couple of mail merged templates and changing the data source from an old Access db to the new SQL Server 2005 db. I did it and handed over the documents, but was then sent an e-mail with an error message screen dump:
User 'public' does not have permission to run DBCC "TRACEON".
Considering I've never done anything like this before and have never seen this error I'm somewhat at a loss... It worked with no issues on my machine (I know, I know, a common claim!). I've had a Google about and found some bits and pieces for similar Excel issues, but I'm not sure I can implement any of those solutions in this situation...
Anyone have any idea how I can sort this out?

Try and run the same with a user that has administrator privileges or with sa password and see if its working 🙂

It seems to work fine, I've had other developers in my team have a poke at it...

So how would I sort it out? The templates use a view in the SS db, but the user who had the issue has been accessing tables from that same db with no trouble. So is it a problem with the Word/mail merge side of things?

not sure but i think that the user needs administrator rights, try data importer or back up rights and see if the user is working on that, i am not exactly sure about the rights, i would say create a test login on a test server with the same rights and then grant some rights and see which ones are working, or read about this import on BOL they must say something about this section ,lets us know how u get on with this 🙂
