I need your advice, please

  • Hi all!

I will try to be as short as I could...

I used to be a DBA for about 4 years, was dealing with SQL Server 7 and 2000. I felt that I was OK on my job, not brilliant, but quite OK. Let say average level or even little above. Passed MCP on Administering and on Databases, both with rather high scores.

Then for 5 years I was doing absolutely different work, which had nothing to do with SQL, databases, servers or whatsoever. Lots of SQL stuff if is not forgotten then for sure is not in active memory. So I guess the picture with me is clear.

Now I have to get up to speed for DBA job again and I must do it really fast. 🙂 More on administrative part of it. On top of that I would have to deal mostly with SQL Server 2005 and even SQL Server 2008.

Could you please give me some advices about which topics got most of changes and would require prioritized attention for DBA. Simply speaking what should I read/refresh/learn first of all to be able to efficiently start the job on newer systems?

Thank you very much in advance!

Sorry if my question sounds stupid...
