Database Mirroring - patching and upgrades

  • We're currently looking at implementing mirroring on some of our SQL Server 2005 databases and are considering our options for those occasions when we are required to upgrade software on the server. The implementation we will be putting in place is for high performance (so safety to OFF).

I note many discussions, articles, etc that state that the best practice for this is to switch to FULL safety and perform a "rolling upgrade", however I'm keen to consider other options for performing these upgrades, however cannot find any information about performing upgrades without using rolling upgrades.

Can anyone provide any information and/or references on other best practices for upgrading SQL Servers without using rolling upgrades (especially when safety set to "OFF").
