Wait for 2008 or go ahead with 2005 dev cert?

  • I am interested in getting the database developer certification. With SQL Server 2008 on its way. should I wait for it? Or should I go with what's available --SQL Server 2005?

Either way is a learning experience for me since my experience comes from SQL Server 2000.

    Thanks!

  • From what I understand, SQL 2008 isn't changed a whole lot from 2005. And since it's not coming out for several months, and the exams will probably be out maybe a year after that, I'd advise going with at least one of the 2005 certs.

There is a SERIOUS learning curve between 2000 and 2005, so start studying now. Even if you're not ready for the 2005 cert by the time the 2008 exams come out, you won't have that much of a leap between 2008 & 2005 if you decide to skip the 2k5 certs all together.
