Cannot access New Publication Wizard

  • I am attempting to deploy a mobile database application that requires I utilizes the New Publication Wizard in Server Mgt Studio. Using the tutorial at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa454892.aspx it tells me to:

"In the Connect to Server dialog box, click the Server type box, and then click Database Engine if it is not already selected. In the Server name box, select your computer name if it is not already selected.

Note   Be sure that you select the entry with just your computer name, and not the entry with your computer's name followed by \SQLEXPRESS"

My problem is that my computer name is not an option when I select "Database Engine". The only database engine is associated with "<my computer name>\SQLEXPRESS". When I use this database the Local Publication folder is removed from the Replication folder.

My question is: How do associate my computer name with the database engine? Or is there any work-a-rounds to accessing the New Publication Wizard?

I have attempted to configure using SQL Server Surface Area Configuration but there doesn't seem to be any options for doing what I need done.

    Thanks in advance

  • Mark,

from MS Technet: SQL Server Express supports subscriptions to merge, snapshot, and transactional publications, but does not permit publications itself.

So in order to create a publication you must use Workgroup, Standard or Enterprise Edition.
