SQl replication and backup monitoring

  • Dear SQl Gurus,

I am doing a backup and replication beteween two physially separate MS SQL servers

One shall be acting as server and the other client; and also viceversa

but both will be not be server and client at the same time:

    I need some answers/pointers to

    1. how to monitor replication queue and report any alarm that queue exceed certain

threshold and possible cause is link congestion (try replication later)

    2. How to distinguish the above from link failure (possibly some SNMP trap I believe)

    3. How to troubleshoot that which site has the problem (between those two)?

I would deeply appreciate for your quick feedback..

    thanks in advance

    Charles

  • SQL server has a replication monitor in Enterprise manager. It has detailed logs for all agents.
