SQL Agent process - Very High Physical I/O and CPU?

    Hi,

    I was reviewing Current Activity - Process Info, in Enterprise Manager, and noticed that the SQL Agent- Alert Engine process has the highest "Physical I/O" value. Some of the values are it is using the msdb databse with a command "AWAITING COMMAND", and status set to "SLEEPING". In another database, with the same indicators, I noticed it had a very high CPU number.

    What is it doing and could this cause bottlenecks?

    You are looking at cumulative counts for a process that has been running since the Agent service was started.  I doubt this is relevant to system performance.
