We just purchased a CX400 EMC SAN from Dell and put our PeopleSoft SQL2k database on it. The performance is less than our SCSI drives. We're seeing 100% disk utilization and only 40-50MB/sec on the SAN while we saw 70-90MB/sec on the SCSI. Dell is scratching their heads. We had to take the SAN off the production boxes because it became so slow but we still have some servers on it for testing. This is what we did:
Ran Iometer which showed high throughput
Gave it more read cache (we're 80% read, 20% write)
Defragged the drive and SQL
The database is about 38GB and it's on a RAID 5, 5 disk which Dell assured us that it would perform as well or better than RAID10.
Does anyone have any ideas? Also, post what your throughput is using SQL so we're not setting unreasonable expectations.
Thanks!

Bah... That's what we were afraid of. We were told 'of course it'll be faster'. When their experts said they'll have to talk to the sales team, I got worried...
Thanks for the good info!

Im using a CX400, having no issues. Maybe not loading it as hard, but its been fast and stable. I'd push on them!
