SQLServer native backup autoloaders/tape librarie

    I am working on providing a backup solution for a fairly large (about 400GB of data) SQLServer database. I know there are several commercial products out there for this job, but in order to provide my manager with a fair comparison, I'd like to know if there's any way for the SQLServer native backup utility to perform a full backup spanning multiple tapes using a tape library/autoloader with a single tape drive.

    I looked in MicroSoft documentation (Books On Line) and I couldn't find anything, so I am asking here for comments and ideas.

    I've never tried using the native SQL Server backup commands to go directly to tape. My largest database is approximately 280GB and I use SQL Server to back it up to disk and then copy that file to tape using Veritas Backup Exec.
