Hi to all,
I have a database of about 700MB and I wonder what is the mean and the optimal time for restoring with use of full backups and transaction log backups.
It would be very helpful to suggest a good book for optimizing these procedures.
Thanks in advance

There are several factors that influence this. One of the major is where is the restore coming from local file backup or from tape. Also, how much data changes and how many transaction logs backups are involved. I recently did a restore from tape of a full backup and 3 days of differential backups for a 430MB database while the server was under reporting loads which are the heaviest of the da. It took 49mins to complete. Conversly did the same thing from a file backup on the local server and took a minute or 2. There is just a lot of variables to way and each drive has a specific thruput. I would say anywhere from 2minutes to 2 and 1/2 hours average unless you have a slower source for the backups or a lot of transactions in the logs as each has to play back.
