that is absurd. you might as well tell me i cannot go on vacation for a week because they would find out i am not needed.

I tend to agree. I saw it as a humorous quote, but I'm worried that there are managers that think this way.

To take this to its logical conclusion, I don't go to any right now, which must mean I'm irreplaceable. Which means they're going to redesign my department and fire me once they have me train everyone.
