Jeff Moden elected Exceptional DBA of 2011

,

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., USA, September 14, 2011 – Jeff Moden – popular technical author and lead application DBA and data architect at DiscoverReady LLC – has been elected by judges and the SQL Server community as the Exceptional DBA of 2011.  The international awards program is hosted by SQLServerCentral and sponsored by Red Gate Software.

Moden will be awarded a trophy at PASS Community Summit 2011 in Seattle, for which he’s receiving full conference registration, four nights’ accommodations, and $300 in travel expenses as this year’s winner.  He’ll also receive a copy of Red Gate’s SQL Toolbelt with 36 months of support and upgrades.

Sharing knowledge

Moden manages huge databases of information being stored and reviewed in litigation and regulatory matters for DiscoverReady LLC, a U.S.-based provider of e-discovery services.  He proved exceptional from the start of the annual competition, having received four nominations by his co-workers.  But, as judge Brad McGehee points out, it takes more than multiple nominations to capture this honor.  McGehee quotes one of Moden’s co-workers:

“He is an exceptional teacher and mentor for the whole team.  We look to him for any complex issues we face in our daily jobs and he is always there for us.”

Says judge Brent Ozar: “Jeff’s nominations from his co-workers went above and beyond, talking about how they really appreciated the quality of his work, the depth of his willingness to help others, and his passion for sharing his knowledge and time with the community.”

“Exceptional DBAs make an impact on the world around them and Jeff Moden exemplifies that,” says Steve Jones, another judge and editor of SQL Server Central.

In an interview for SQLServerCentral, Moden expresses gratitude for the award – “on a scale of 1 to 10, this is about 1,000!” – but considers it much more than an individual achievement.  “It’s about a concept that, as DBAs and developers, we should all carry forward: share the knowledge we’ve all fought so hard to learn.”
