True Steve... However, with a 162 game season in the US you go from one climate to another... very hot, humid, cool, cold... season is long... It tends to wear down a player and you go through slumps... also with a longer season you are much more prone to an injury as well. Granted, he proved he is almost bullet proof with his run here in the US. However, you just never know if those factors would have played into his career had he played all of his years in the US. Pete Rose was very healthy and hardly ever missed a game in his entire career as a player which did help him with his numbers. Could that be the case for Suzuki as well? We will never know. All it takes is one injury like yesterday where the Braves player got his jaw broken with a pitch and will miss 6 weeks... a hamstring, a collision with the center field wall...etc... or a career ending injury as well. Those 1,000ish hits in Japan would take 5 seasons for him to do here in the US if he had 200 a year.

Longevity is always a luck factor. How many running backs were arguably better than Emmit Smith? Quite a few, but they have to survive to get there. How many HR hitters better than Aaron or Ruth? Maybe a few, but they have to consistently hit to get there. I thought Griffey and A-Rod would be higher now, but various issues have slowed/stopped them.

I thought Jeter would be closer to 3,400, perhaps getting to #4 or #5 on the all time list for his career. Now, not sure he'll get to 3400.

We can only look at Ichiro and how he has endured, and guess. Since he's survived well in MLB, I think he would be a 4K hitter if his whole career were here.

Just don't put any leagues down, please. We're all trying to do our best to develop players. Some leagues are better than others and produce better players, but us as coaches and committee members of our respective clubs do our best to get the players to what their abilities are. Got one player in my U12 team who should surely make South African colours when he turns 18. That's if he stays in the team or even better moves to one of the bigger clubs.

BTW, South Africa U18 beat United Kingdom 16:3 (if I'm not mistaken) on their tour to SA on Monday here in Cape Town. Proud of the guys.

Gah!!!

Mo, I love you, but man, the blown save (and the loss in extra innings) was frustrating last night!!!

(And it resulted in a lot of crap from my Red Sox-fan wife!!!)

The season ends for me this weekend. Playoffs on Sun, but we're short a couple players and I don't have high hopes we'll win. In fact, I hope we don't. Bum knee, both arms hurting, I am ready for the season to end and try and heal up.

Tee Time (9/17/2013)
Go Red Sox!

Boo Red Sox.

though as I write this, the Yankees seemingly have given up on the season and the Rockies have no chance at .500.

The Giants were done weeks ago but Hunter Pence and Brandon Belt decide that they'll start going on a tear when it means nothing. Pence is in "negotiation" mode...may get $15mil+ a year. Sheesh.

At least they pummeled the Dodgers...not that it matters much.

I'm an A's fan now, give me something to watch in the playoffs.
