That was quite the monsoon they finished the game in last night. I don't think I've ever seen baseball played in that heavy of rain, but you know they wanted to get it over with.
I don't have a real rooting interest on either side of the series, but I would give the edge to the Tigers. The Giants' big boys (Posey, Pence) are going to have to find their swing again quickly with Verlander, Scherzer, and Co. on full rest or else they could be gone quickly.

BTW, I still haven't understood why it is called the "World Series", if only North American teams ever play in it. But that's just me sitting in that little dark corner in Africa

That's the basis of a common jibe of soccer fans here in the US. "When we have a world championship, we invite the rest of the world." But, of course the name is historical. When the first World Series was held in 1903, baseball (or "base ball", as it was called) was not common in any other country, so the term was more accurate then, even if a bit hyperbolic.

I never really understood it either... Sounds good... but... doesn't make sense. The first 'Non US' based team was the now gone Montreal Expos in 1969... they are now in Washington DC because they failed to draw enough fans. There is still the Toronto Blue Jays though. I think they became a MLB team in 1978.

Considering how crazy for baseball the Japanese seem to be, it be real fun to see a series between a US team and a Japanese team, especially with the rule differences. IIRC, the Japanese keep playing all 9 innings regardless of weather (driving rain and you almost can't see first base from home plate? PLAY BALL!) Maybe do a best of 8 series, 4 games in each country, with an even split between the rules (2 each by US and Japanese rules)
Anyways...

Well, despite the lack of production from the Tigers' bats, it was a fun series.
Congrats to the SF Giants, World Series Champs 2012!
(maybe I should've specified the Tigers as the team that was *going* to sweep the series, rather than just chanting sweep?)
