SQL Server does not boot...and the solution

  • Hi everyone,

I called MS Support and they figured this problem out. Since google didn't help, I decided to post this so that others can benefit from it.

Here's the errors when I try to start sql server 2K:

    Error: 17882, Severity: 18, State: 1

Error accepting connection request via Net-Library 'SSNETLIB'. Execution continuing..

    Error: 17059, Severity: 18, State: 0

Operating system error 123: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect...

    Error: 17815, Severity: 18, State: 1

No longer waiting for client connections using Net-Library'SSNETLIB'..

The solution: On the server, go to Start > Programs > Microsft SQL Server > Server Network Utility. Go to the properties of "Named Pipes" and copy and save what's there (just in case you need it for the future). Change what's there to "\\.\pipe\sql\query" (without the quotations) and restart sql server. That's it.

  • Very cool... thanks for sharing!

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
