SQL Server 2012 installation error with

A network-related or instance specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server.

The server was not found or not accessible.

I've never heard of this error during an initial installation before. The error itself is a common one, but not during installation.

Also, your question at http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1759067-3411-1.aspx say's you're trying to install SQL 2014. This one says you're trying to install SQL 2012 and you posted it in a SQL 2014 forum. Are you trying to install SQL 2012 on a server with SQL 2014 already installed?

Between this question and your other one , I also have to ask where you got your installation media.

  • This error comes while connecting to sql server not when installing.

Okay, got it. Make sure you're specifying the correct name of the server with the appropriate port number, if applicable. If you're connecting to a SQL cluster, you need to specify the network name of the cluster instead of an individual server name. If you need a port number, you specify the name, followed by a comma and then the port number. Your DBA will be able to tell you what port number to use.

  • Just RESTART your computer and you will be able to connect to your SQL Server, If this solution doesn't work then you can also take the help of this link: http://www.sqlserverlogexplorer.com/fix-error-message-40/[/url]
