Connection problem to sql server 2000

  Hi All,

  I was given a windows 8 workstation and sql server 2008 r2 was installed in it because it is the only compatible sql server that our company has for windows 8 ( im the guinea pig).

  I am able to connect to our uat databases but am unable to connect to our 3 production databases all are running windows server 2003 and installed ms sql server 2000.

  I have proper network and firewall access.

  I can ping the servers and telnet the ports of the sql server.

  I was wondering if I did anything wrong or if there was any other settings i need to change?
