SSC veteran,
thanks a bunch for your detailed advise. I did have 2008r2 installed on my previous machine from 2010 to Sept 2012 (using vmware), but when I did not see anything as a junior DBA or Trainee DBA, I had to look at other options
I could do the following
Mirroring (Principal, Mirror and Witness)
Log Shipping
Backup and Recovery
User roles and rights
Performance Tuning

Ah, I'm with you.
I don't see TSQL on that list? I doubt you'll get very far without a good understanding/knowledge of it
Anyway, best of luck to you and I hope it all works out.
Feel free to post back to the Forums if you need any further advice, there are plenty of experienced folks here who can give it.

of course i use T-SQL to write stored procedures and functions. I am not however as robust in T-SQL as a SQL Server Developer
