But unless your job is something like help desk support or hands on hardware, you don't really have to live in the city to work for an IT department based there.
Is that really true? Still seems so many large companies (and their managers), want people on site.
Of course those who live locally and can both telecommute or drive into the office have an advantage. I have a desk at the office, but remote into my desktop a couple of days a week. It would make no real difference if I worked remotely five days a week. The difference is marginal.
