Learning new programing language (Python or R)?

  • I'm quite good at SQL and T-SQL and am interested to learn a programming language.

What would you recommend learning out of Python and R? I do minor data analytical work, though will likely move into data analytics down the track. What would you recommend and why?

  • Why not play with each one and decide for yourself? R support is already built into SQL Server.

  • And Python will be usable in the next version of SQL Server (2017)

I decided to start with R, and then pick up Python later
