Data Stewardship

  • I have just been appointed to the job of Data Steward in our company, sharing the position with the manager of our BI team. I am responsible for data quality, he is responsible for data analytics. As I read through the document defining all my new responsibilities, I find myself wondering a few things.

Has anyone here had to take on a data steward role in an official capacity?

If so, has it affected or changed your priorities? And how so?

Is there anything I should keep in mind or watch out for?

  • Hi Brandie,

How did this all work out for you?

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • So far, I keep not getting the invites to the webex meetings. But I think I have it resolved now.

According to my coworker, there's been a lot of talk about defining the roles, and not much else. Then yesterday, I got a link to this "Dataversity" data governance online "university" thing. The people running this initiative think it would be a great thing for us to attend as many classes as we can then discuss the approaches in the classes in regards to what we can do or shouldn't do at our company.

It looks interesting. I'll check out a few courses.
