The restore fails with the following error:
Message
Executed as user: . Error reading data from file. Pos: 26295227674, Byte required: 0, Byte Read: 0 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE HY000] (Error 61000). The step failed.
It is the fourth time the restore has failed continuously.
Env details: Windows 2003, SQL Server 2005 with LiteSpeed installed.
Has anyone come across this error message while restoring?
Can somebody help me in this regard?
Thanks in advance for the help,
Sridhar

First, question. Where is the backup file located, tape, network share (mapped drive or UNC), or a local disk?
My gut feeling, your backup is corrupt. If local tape, very good possibility as I have seen brand new tapes go bad in one use. If a network share, you may be experiencing a network issue and should try bringing the file local to the server. If it is local, again, you may have a bad backup file.

Possible causes:
* Backup file corrupted
* Drive have bad sectors
* while taking backup, some one intrupted the backup process.
* check the LiteSpeed working properly or not.

Lynn and Kishore thanks a lot for your replies...
The backup files are located on a different server but in the same domain and even I reckon the network would have been the culprit.
I would like to know if there is a way where I can start the restore from the point it failed the last time? Would be very good to have something like that 🙂
Thanks,
Sridhar

To add to the above.....the backup files were used to successfully restore dbs on other server machines.
Thanks,

Can you move the file(s) local to the server you are attempting the restore and try it from there?
