What is the advantage of rebuilding the master database vs reinstalling the instance if you cannot access the instance.

I think reinstalling the instance will create new MSDB database. So old SQL Server Agent jobs, alerts, SSIS packages, etc. will not be available.

thats doesn't sound like much considering I assume you can restore both databases to get all your data back.

My choice is to go for rebuildmaster and restore the recent backup... This saves time and lot of other issues!
