schema permissions

  • in what way the ownership of objects has been changed in 2005 through schema.

what permissions does an schema inherit when a new schema is created?

does the user permissions inherit to the schema when he is made the schema owner?

    thanks in advance...

    replies are appreciated.....

  • The main change is that schemas are no longer bound to users, users are assigned a default schema though.

To my knowledge a schema does not inherit any persmissions when a new schema is created. Schemas do not have permissions, users/roles are assigned permissions against schemas.

A schema does not inherit permissions from a user a user is granted permissions through a schema. If UserA is the owner of SchemaA then UserA has full rights on any and all objects created in SchemaA, but SchemaA is not granted any rights to any other objects the UserA has rights to, except through ownership chaining. If UserA owns SchemaA and SchemaB then Users with execute permissions on stored procedures/functions in SchemaA will be able to access objects in SchemaB and vice-versa without being granted explicit rights on those objects.

  • thanks jack...
