What are webmethods, and for what purpose?

I dont know much about webmethods. As far as i know webmethods can also be used for the ETL source when data needs to be collected from multiple sources. It is used when data needs to be dynamically generated. Not sure how.

So are we talking about using web services in SSIS for say a datasource, or to control other things, such as which report(s) to run and what to pass to the report's parameters in SSRS then?
