SQL Server failed under Cluster Administrator

  • SQL Server 2005 E.E.

    Windows 2003 Server SP2

    Failover cluster (Active/Passive)

SQL Resources is shown as "failed" state under cluster.

But SQL Server Service is running on the active node. Application is up and running fine.

What could cause the disparity here?

    We can't install SQL Server 2005 sp2.

  • If you look at the cluster resources in Cluster Administrator for your SQL group it should show you which of the resources has not started. Your database engine might be running, but one of the other resources (e.g. SQL Agent, Full text Search etc.) might have failed to start.

If you find the offending resource, try and restart it and then look in the application logs for any errors.
