Problem re-installing Client Components after they have been removed from client

  • Working in a 2 tier Windows 2003 Server R2 environment. SQL 2005 Server instance is installed on one server, on the second W2k3 server (running terminal services) only the Client Connection tools were installed . All client component options where installed on the T/S (Connectivity Components, Management Tools, Business Intelligence Development, Software Development Kit, SQLXML Client Features), but did not need the Business Intelligence option and Software development kit. Connectivity Components and Management Tools were inadvertently un-installed with the others. There are no options in the Add/Remove Programs list to "change and or modify" these features. Trying to reinstall the Connectivity Components and Management Tools from the Setup disc, and the setup program will not "reinstall" these components. When running the setup program, I can select the options to install, but get a message from the installer that says "Existing components. Components have been found on the machine. Select upgrade options below. The following components that you choose to install are already installed on the machine. To view a report of available options and alternatives, click on details." The details options says: "Installation Options. The list below shows installed components and upgrade options. Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools. Allowed Action: Maintain (Action is only available from Add or remove Programs) Reason: Cannot maintain product, to maintain the product go to Add or Remove Programs" (see attached pdf).

How can I use Add or Remove programs for these features when they don't show up in the list of programs? Is there a command line option (or something) where I can force a reinstall of the tools?

A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is already installed. To upgrade the existing component, refer to the template.ini and set the UPGRADE property to the name of the component
