MSDTC Keeps Failing on Windows Cluster 2008

  • Would like help in resolving MSDTC in 2008 that keeps failing when I bring it up.

    What I have done:

I have two Windows 2008 clusters setup and up and running with one log drive, one database drive and one Quorum drive.

    - I installed MSDTC feature by going to Add feature and so on...

    - I tried installing that feature from Configure application servers from the cluster management and accept all the defaults and assign the log drive to msdtc. After doing so, the MSDTC name keeps failing but the IP option is up online but cannot find away to have the actual msdtc brought online. Can someone please shed some light because I am getting really frustrated with this.

  • Is the DTC in the same resource group as the SQL Server and its log is on a disk in that resource group?

  • No I have it installed SQL yet. I was just trying to get the MSDTC going before installing SQL 2005. Here are some errors that I am getting even though I have given the object domain admins access in AD

"Cluster network name resource 'ATLSRVCLS20Dtc' failed to create its associated computer object in domain 'mia.amadeus.net' for the following reason: Unable to create computer account.

The text for the associated error code is: Access is denied.

Please work with your domain administrator to ensure that:

    - The cluster identity 'ATLSRVCLS20$' can create computer objects. By default all computer objects are created in the 'Computers' container; consult the domain administrator if this location has been changed.

    - The quota for computer objects has not been reached.

    - If there is an existing computer object, verify the Cluster Identity 'ATLSRVCLS20$' has 'Full Control' permission to that computer object using the Active Directory Users and Computers tool.

  • I think you are getting the cart before the horse. Install SQL. Also, what user is DTC using to login, I believe the right answer should be NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE.

I have never had this issue when I installed SQL and let it do its setup.

That is my advice, install SQL and then restart troubleshooting.
