SSIS vs. TSQL

  • So I've committed to SSIS for my latest project. It's been a steep learning curve, but I'm starting to feel pretty comfortable with SSIS. The question that keeps rolling around my head is am I better off using SSIS vs. hand coding stuff using TSQL / C# / Script. I feel like I could do most things more quickly if I coded them by hand.

I'm an accomplished programmer by trade. I've sort of become and "accidental DBA" the last couple years (and I've really enjoyed that actually!). I definitely see the reusability benefits of SSIS (code/connections/etc), and it would be awesome to have all our scattered import/export/transformation mess centralized into one technology and location, but if one of the folks I'm accountable to asks me why I've jumped on the SSIS bandwagon, am I being selfish and just learning a new toy? Or, am I really making a good business decision for the company?
