  • Research Topics in Distributed Database Design

Instead of drilling through IEEE papers i thought i would ask the vets first

This question is to the those veterans and old Hands who are in the industry for a while.

I am a computer Science Student who wants his area of concentration as Databases , more exactly distributed databases. I am planning on a topic for research on Distributed Databases.

Keeping in mind things like Globalization, Outsourcing , Multiple office locations, Businesses spreading across the continents, Performance, Security single database being replicated at tens of other places and. so on....

WHAT WOULD INDUSTRY SUGGEST A STUDENT SHOULD RESEARCH ON?

I might nt be able to accomplish your expectations bt it would serve as a reference to what is hot ?

  • A couple of possible suggestions...

I have a friend who works for a clothing company. They do most of the design work in the US, the marketing in US, Europe, India, Japan, Australia and manufacturing in places like Philipines & other 3rd world countries.

I work for an insurance company that works globally. I can't go into details, but trust me, there are a lot of interesting data problems working with multiple countries and the laws regulating insurance within them.

  • I found that working in the IT department of a a multinational manufacturing company for a few years was a great education in many ways. It amazed me that they actually paid me to be there learning all that stuff.

    Best wishes,
