Replication is not working

  • Dear All,

In our organisation we configuared transactional replication between 2 servers.

Daily we are doing monitoring on replication.when we click on launch replication monitor it will show the status of publisher. If it is running sucessfully it will show as good in both the servers.

Yesterday i found that in server 1 everything was good. But in server 2 when i click on launch repliaction monitor it is not showing any connection also. There is no publisher.when i am doing right click on Publisher it is showing options add publisher, configure distributor like that....

Then i checked in logs. But there is no error and information related this.everything is normal only....

Note:After some time without doing anything again replication came to normal postion on server2.

I checked log reader and distribution agents they are running only.but when i am clicking on monitor it is showing same(like not connected).

This problem is occuring frequently..I am not getting exact root caused...

    Kindly help me ...

    Waiting for quick response.

  • I'm confused. What is the issue specifically?

  • we configured transactional updatable replication between 2 servers.Daily we will monitor replication through Launch replication monitor.

But now a days i am facing one issue .

Server 1 when i monitor replication it is showing the status.

server 2 when i monitor replication it is not showing anything. It is showing croos mark(like disconnected). But after some time without doing anything it wii come back to normal status.

Now a days i am facing same issue daily.but it is not coming to normal status. It is in disconnected status only.

I didn't find any information from logs.all agents are running fine..

  • When you connect to Replication Monitor from #2, can you right-click on "My Publishers" and add #1? Replication Monitor will automatically default to the current box, IFF the current box is a publisher, otherwise nothing will automatically load in Replication Monitor and you have to manually add the server(s) that are publishers.

Are the tables on #2 not being updated?

  • Hi

i tried to add publisher in server#2 .But i m getting message like already replmonitor is using publisher.

so i tried to connet distributor in server#2 but it is giving error like

    MESSAGE:

Replication monitor couldnot connect to distributor'Server name'.

    Additional information:

    CryptUnprotect data:WIn32 error:-2146893813(microsoft.sqlserver.RegSvrEnum)

All agents are running fine. When i gone through view synchronization it is good only.Updates are happening.

  • Did you verify manually that data is being replicated?

It sounds like everything is working fine, and the only issue is that when you launch replication monitor from the subscriber, it doesn't always connect and show you the correct info right away. I had similar issues when I was using SSMS 2008 and connecting to 2005 servers to check replication...eventually I just remoted into the box itself and used SSMS 2005 that was installed there, and it was more consistent.

It also sounds like there might be some issues communicating from your subscriber to your publisher/distributor...do you have any firewall rules in place, different domains, wrong dns suffix search order, etc? Can you launch SSMS from the subscriber and connect to the pub/dist with just their standard names (not FQDN/IP...replication requires just the server name)?

  • But we found that data is repliacting between 2 servers.

is there any another root cause.

  • kindly help me to solve this

  • Try to remove publisher and add it again in replication monitor.

  • I have the error :

An error occurred while attempting to access the subscription. (View Synchronization Status)

    ------------------------------

To synchronize, you must first create an agent job for this subscription. (View Synchronization Status)

and my both publisher and subscriber are at different domain.

    Thanks
