Are you running report from front end?

In case of RDLC reports, you get the dataset on the frontend and then bind it with the report. You can check the dataset before binding it with report and generate propper message if dataset is empty.

In reporting services, you can provide no data message in the report. Here is the link;

hi..
In your SSRS Report itself u can provide such messages..
in chart properties (CTRL + f4 ) select "no rows " property.. give expression like "NO RECORDS FOUND " U CAN ALSO PROVIDE WITH CONDITIONAL MESSAGES.

Gayathri
