my cpu usage varies from 50 to 75%
and i have 4 GB of RAM out of which 1.25 GB is used by sql server
if i click on activity monitor it gives timeout expired issue
can any one help me on this and the performance of ssms is also slow

Running sp_who2 will show a slice of the activity monitor data as well.
Sorry I have to ask but have you taken a look at your SQL Server Logs? (Windows Event viewer App-Log) if that's failing.
