SQL 2008 Express Install Error: The specified user group 'SQLServerMSSQLUser$vdc2$SQLEXPRESS' does not exist

  • Hello and thanks in advance for assistance. I run a single server environment at home for learning etc. I want to set up a website for a group of friends and to do so, I need SQLExpress. As I only have the one server it is a DC and Exchange server as well. However, it has only one real user (me). When I try to install SQL Express 2008 I get the error identified in the title. The group exists, along with a number of similar groups. I am installing as administrator and have created a service account that is also a domain admin.

I am not sure what to do as I cannot find references to this error anywhere. I have searched these forums but couldn't find anything with this specific problem.

    Thanks in advance

  • I'm wondering if you were able to get this resolved? I have received the same error, only after wrestling with the installation of SQL 2008 Express. I never had any problems with 2005 but 2008 has been quite an experience. I am also having problems with the install claiming "The install directory is invalid". Hmm, when I'm Administrator, I thought there should be no problem.

If you hear of any solutions, please let me know. I have a software package that isn't being installed because it is stalled by these errors.
