Having Sharepoint on the same instance as other databases

  • Morning,

Is there any issue with setting up an instance which is running the sharepoint wss3.0 databases as well as other custom databases running on the same instance?

Would prefer not to have two instances so as not to sort settings in the resource governor.

    Many Thanks for the response.

    Oliver

  • Have the same setup running live in my environment, no issues except of course the extra load on the Server.

  • Thanks for the reply much appreciated.

  • We have 2 beefy Dell R730 servers in a clustered environment each with 2 8-core processors and 512GB of RAM. The idea is to eventually host all of our SQL databases in an Active/Active SQL cluster within this environment with one 'heavy-hitter' instance on node 1 hosting SharePoint and some other databases, and the other instance on node 2 hosting some other less-intensive databases. Almost everything I read says to put SharePoint into it's own SQL instance, but given the server specs, I can't imagine that hosting some other databases along with the SharePoint databases in the same instance could be that detrimental. Thoughts and/or recommendations regarding this?
