  • The title of the document I linked to is:

You receive a "The Collation specified by SQL Server is not supported" error message when you try to install SQL Server 2008

Which seems to be the exact error you're having. During the install process, are you selecting a collation other than the default one? I know SQL server sets the default collation based on your location, so if you're not in the US, that might be your problem. Have you tried selecting a collation other than the default one when you install? It's hard to think of additional advice without having more information.

Have you tried the install on a different box? Do you have this problem with every server you try to install SQL 2008 on, or is it only this particular server? If your install only fails on this server, is it possible to have it rebuilt? Are you sure you have the correct install package?

  • i'm having the same problem. when I try to install the standard / enterprise edition. It was moving to the final stage successfully. During the collation tab, it is automatically showing the error message. I have tried to select the other options. But i could not able to get succeded.

  • Hello,

In the log files search for the following text VALUE 3, it will show you alittle bit more in detail about the error. If you could post that back in here I or we could give ya some help.

  • Thanks for the response. I couldn't able to find that file in my system. Kindly tell me where can i find that file ?

  • Is this 32 bit or 64 bit? Locations are different.

  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log

You should see Folders & a summary file, you want to look in the recent folder in the Log directory look for a file named sql_fulltext, then do your search for Value 3.

  • i could able to see that folder including summary file, But there is no sql_fulltext file in all the sub folders.... 🙁

  • Could you tell me about the system your doing the install on? Is it a server or desktop? 32bit or 64?

Just for grins, it would be interesting if this worked...I remember sql 2005 having a similar issue.

Try doing the SQL Server 2008 via command prompt

  • do i need to install it again to get this file ?
