Thanks for the article. That is a LOT of steps and code to generate an ATOM RSS feed. You might want to take a look at Keelio Software's SSIS plugins to convert data to XML (www.keelio.com). There are 4 samples in the XML SSIS Toolkit package that show you how to generate Google ATOM .3, ATOM 1.0, RSS 1.0, and RSS 2.0 feeds from source data.

They are also coming out with a XML Transformation and XML Formatter transformation components that will make hierarchical XML (parent/child relationships) easier to piece together.
