SSMS Installation Error

  • Hello all,

I am trying to load SSMS on an out of the box Dell Latitude 630 Core 2 Duo CPU 2GHz with 1GB of RAM and XP Pro SP3 is loaded

The machine has all the framework loaded and has not previously had 32bit SS2K5 loaded on it.

When I try to install via the auto run, I get the following message after I accept the license agreement:

    Errors occured during the installation.

    Error installing .NET framework 2.0.

    The parameter is incorrect.

    This message comes back immediately.

I then navigate the CD to ..\tools\setup and try to run the SQLRun_Tools.msi directly and the installer comes up and starts going through the extracting and installation preperation then the following error message pops up:

Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools -- Error 29527. The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is SetDialogs. The error is : Source File Name: datastore\cachedpropertycollection.cpp

I have tried to install the 64 bit version and the initial message after preparing to install I get the message:

The installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor.

Has anyone run into this before?

    Thanks in advance.

  • yes I have had similar problem in the past, you more than likely need to uninstall the .net framework. my guess is its the 32 bit version and you need the 64 bit. this will be installed during your sql install as SSRS and SSIS need it

    good luck

  • It sounds like you are doing this on a 32bit XP Installation so installing the 64bit version is not going to work. You may want to try and download SP1 for .NET Framework, and also be sure to go through windows update and download all the critical updates.

    .NET Framework SP1 - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=79BC3B77-E02C-4AD3-AACF-A7633F706BA5&displaylang=en

  • I appreciate the replies and have tried to uninstall the framework 2.0 and I was not able too. When I try to uninstall it, the system will not allow me too as I there are other applications utilizing the framework 2.0.

I also tried upgrading SP1 from the link, and I get the message that SP1 for the framework is already installed then it gives me a finished button on the installer, with a generic "Error" statement in the heading, with no other text.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

    Thanks much.

  • I then navigate the CD to ..\tools\setup and try to run the SQLRun_Tools.msi directly and the installer comes up and starts going through the extracting and installation preperation then the following error message pops up:

Depending you what else you are running 1gig of ram is small, now to your error these errors relates to running SQL Server setup from a CD/DVD drive try coping the files to your C drive and run setup from your C drive. But you may want to use system restore to roll the system back to the point before your error.

  • Unfortunately going back to the windows version pre SSMS installation is not an option. I did download the MS Insallation cleaner utility and removed the .NET framework. However when I checked the registry there are still framework 2.0 folders called "v2.0 SP1" and "v2.0 50727" under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\.NET Framework.

Despite finding these entries after I ran the installation cleaner I tried to install SSMS 2005 and got the errors. here is the error from the SQLSetup Core log. The message picks up just after the last successful step and with the command that is run directly before the error in the log.

Then again further down from the first error is the second group of errors. With this error I am not sure where the directory begining with "t:\" is coming from. I do not have a "t:" drive on my laptop.

  • I have given you the clean solution which is system restore here is the last solution to try. If this does not work then you must use system restore.
