Error on SQL 2005 SP3 install Code 1612

  • I cannot install the SQL 2005 SP3 update from Windows Update or by downloading the standalone install.

The error code reported is 1612

Here is the bootstrap log. In searching for these errors I've read that people have had to reinstall SQL server to fix it. I'm hoping to try and avoid that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi I am having the same problem with SP3 install. Has anybody been able to resolve the problem?

    Thank you

  • This is applicable only when you are upgrading SP3 from SP2.

    1. If the installer files are not available in the installer folder, check the installer log file to find out the MISSING MSI FILES

    2. Extract the SQL server 2005 SP2 files to one folder (for e.g.: D:\SQL2K5\SQL2005SP2)

    3. Rename recache.txt to recache.js and copy to D:\SQL2K5\ folder

    4. Run the following command

    cscript recache.js D:\SQL2K5\SQL2K5SP2

    5. It will recache the installer files. Then try installing SP3.
