I have a database backup I'm trying to restore to a newly created database on a sql 2005 server. I'm receiving the "The media family on device 'C:\etc\etc' is incorrectly formed. Sql server cannot process this media family.
Looking at the backup set it says '*** INCOMPLETE ***' as the name.
I'm suspecting this is a backup file from a sql server v7.0, and I've tried setting compatibility mode to 70 prior to performing the restore but I get the same thing.
It IS possible to restore a 7.0 backup to a db on a 2005 instance right?
Does the *** INCOMPLETE *** mean that the backup was performed using more than one file maybe and I have only one?
Any programs out there that can verify the file for me, or read a few pages and tell me what type of backup it is or something?
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about the media family error, but you can restore SQL 7.0 to SQL 2005.
