Running on SQL 2000 - Answer is wrong

begin tran
create table stud_mast (dob datetime, aaa int)
insert into stud_mast values ('1 feb 2008', 1)
insert into stud_mast values ('1 jan 2008', 1)
insert into stud_mast values ('1 mar 2008', 1)


select dob, * from stud_mast order by dob desc

rollback tran

--Results

If table is owned by dbo then this query returns results as expected in SQL Server 2000.
select hire_date, * from employee order by hire_date desc
