  Service Pack 3a Error: "Setup was unable to validate the logged on user. Press Retry to enter another option, or Cancel to exit setup." 

  I did a search here at SQL Server Central, and did not come up with any solutions.

  I did a google search and came up with various solutions having to do with Regedit and stuff, but those were not much help.  But, some of those other sites popped an idea into my head.... 

  SOLUTION  ^{_{(for my particular circumsance)}}

  For an unknown reason, the server did not have any enabled protocols in the Client Network Utility.  I enabled "Named Pipes" and then everything was marvelous. 

  I assume the same would be true with SP2, SP3, SP3a, or SP4 ... and beyond. 

  Just thought I would add that info here, in case anybody else does a search in these forums.
