Ugh server keeps crashing

  • I have a sql 2008r2 box on vmware. It is a cluster (it was p to v as a cluster before I was here but not really the issue). Right before the sql resource takes a dive in the Windows event log I get The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur. in windows event log. THen in sql it all of sudden can't find log files for master, tempdb etc. Initial research looks like disk subsytem error. ANyone dealt with this before?

  • What does the Failover Cluster Manager log say on one of the nodes, anything? It sounds like an issue with the shared storage. You may want to run the Cluster validation tool against the cluster and see what it comes back with.

  • Really sounds like you are losing that drive in the cluster. Check the Windows system logs, and also with your storage admin.

Shamless self promotion - read my blog http://sirsql.net

  • We have had the exact same issue on a few VM's here. Our VM guys have a fix for it, I'll see if I can get the answer for you.

MCITP SQL 2005, MCSA SQL 2012

  • It ended up being a storage issue and VMOTION. The fact that someone P to V'd these active/passive clusters is part of the mess. Only one node came across when they did this
