Hi,
I'm attending my first PASS event this month in Germany. As I haven't been to one before I was wondering what to expect. There will be 2 speakers but I was looking for any advice as to how I could get the most out of this event and future ones in terms of technical information exchange, experiences/problems with SQL Server, networking etc..

No it's happening on a Monday after work. It's a monthly meeting for the PASS members in that part of Germany. It's actually happening at the Microsoft office/campus of the region.

Ah, okay, I see. It sounds more like one of our monthly user group meetings. I'd say ask plenty of questions and talk to people! You should definitely be able to get some very good networking contacts. I've made some friends through our local user group. Not to mention that our local user group is also what inspired me to get started with doing SQL Saturday presentations.
And don't forget: have fun! 🙂

Which city in Germany? I've been over there and spoke at six different user groups. Every one was a great group of people, but each one was a little different in how they did things.
By and large, be open to talk to people and the rest will follow naturally.

Meet 3-5 new people. Just say hi, introduce yourself and ask what they do. Or why they're there. Spend 3-5 minutes getting to know them. More if you want, excuse yourself if you don't.
Take notes on paper if there are interesting talks.

Forgive me for being so cliche but, go early and stay late. Here in Chicago theres always a few people there at least an hour early and people staying after to chat.

Forgive me for being so cliche but, go early and stay late. Here in Chicago theres always a few people there at least an hour early and people staying after to chat.
And if they go out afterwards and you're comfortable, go out with them. It'll help you get to know some people a little more. You can meet some really interesting people at these things.
