Timeline in Excel 2013 for Date Dimension from AS

  • Hello,

i would like to insert a timeline in my pivot table, that is build from dimensions and measures from my AS-Cube.

I get a messages, there is no field with a date-format. It is not possible to insert a timeline.

It is not possible to format the column with the Date-Attributs to the datatype date, they still remain as a string.

If i specify my attribut in the AS-Solution as date or use a NameColumn, which is format as date it also doesn't work.

    Any idea?

  • You need to set the Value column of your Date attribute to use a date column from your relational source - beware this could have consequenses. You also need to mark the temporal dimension as a Time dimension.

  • hello, thank you for the reply.

I have changed the ValueColumn to a Column from the DSV which is from datatype date.

    The dimension-type is Time.

The KeyColumn is a Intenger, the NameColumn is none.

I have tried it with the types Regular and Date for Dimension-Attribut which use the Date DataFiled from the DS.

But I still can't use the timeline.

You say you changed the ValueColumn - does this mean it was something else before? Just changing the source column of the ValueColumn to something else is not enough - you need to change the value column data type to Date also (it won't change automatically). Sorry if that wasn't clear.

  • The ValueColumn was not set before.

The datatype of my [Column_A] in the tabular model is from type date.

The ValueColumn from my Dimensionattribut [DateTest] now references to this [Column_A] in the tabular model.

The Type of the Dimension Attribut [DateTest] is date.

But the Dimension Attribut [DateTest] in Excel is still a Text.

Forgive me but have you processed these changes?

Also, have you set the table you are using for this as a Date type table (I mentioned the Time type before, but I didn't realize you were talking about SSAS Tabular) - Table>Date>Mark as Date Table?

  • yes, changes have been deployed an processed.

At the Moment, it seems to me, that the KeyColumn also must be of the datatype date, like the ValueColumn.

    After these changes it works.

But i want to leave my KeyColumn as an integer, if it is possible.

The Key can be of datatype integer, but the ValuColumn from the KeyAttribut must also be from a column with Datatype Date.

    No it works!

    Thx!
