I've been on two SQL Saturdays and I like it. Are there similar free trainings for other technologies, like .NET, Oracle, Java?

When Redgate SQL in the City comes around that's similar to SQL Saturday. I know this was not your question but it's worth mentioning.

I don't know about the other technologies but I know, for example, with .Net there are user groups. Find out where one of those are and ask around there.

Oracle organizes certain free events. You might find some information in www.oracle.com/technetwork

Those include Oracle database, MySQL, Java and probably other Oracle products.

There's so much good free stuff now. SQLBits is incredible!

Many of the larger organizations, like the one I work for now, have enough senior level software and database professionals on staff that we host our own internal lunch and learn sessions and "TechEd" days. It's one thing to attend a session, but when you have employees presenting sessions on a topic for which the entire department or organization will watch, it incentivizes them to become even more expert in that area in addition to developing their presentation skills.

There are the PASS Virtual Chapters. They cover topics other than SQL Server. After that, for non-Data Platform stuff, I'd suggest searching through meetup[/url].
