Write Failure on backup device

  • Hi All,

When I am checking the error logs. I see some errors like below

BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE DB_NAME. Check the backup application log for detailed messages. Error: 3041, severity: 16, State: 1

BackupIoRequest::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'XXX-XX-XXXX-XXX-XXXXXX'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.). Error: 18210, Severity: 16, State: 1

This msg are seen in the morning times. This is the 3rd time I am seeing these msg in the error logs.

But this time, we don't have the any SQL backup job schedule to run.

The Native SQL Full Backup job is schedule to run night.

  • Not sure which version of SQL you are using. Please see if this KB article helps:

A race condition is an undesirable situation that occurs when a device or system attempts to perform two or more operations at the same time, but because of the nature of the device or system, the operations must be done in the proper sequence to be done correctly.
